Patricia has flown away

Brother John and sister Mary Ellen, writing together to inform you all that our dear little sister Patricia passed away on December 2, 2010 at 1:05 pm – rather suddenly, but peacefully, and with her typical grace and excellent sense of timing.

Since our last blog entry, Trish had become so ill that she was unable to get out of bed, and was becoming more and more confused. The tumor was surely growing, and her doctors recommended no further treatments –just palliative care to keep her comfortable. We and her doctors were expecting that she might last for several weeks – quite possibly longer due to her young age and excellent health.

We were just gearing up for a long, agonizing trip down the hospice road. The many wonderful hospice and private caregivers, nurses, family members, and all the drugs and accouterments were being assembled to make her comfortable. The hospital bed was being delivered when she peacefully flew away with her family at her side. Typical great timing from Trish – the hospital bed never even got off the truck.

A celebration of her life will take place in late January. We will have a posting here with details soon.

Thank you all for your special visits, and kind, healing thoughts and prayers. Trisha received them all with her warm, open heart and her brief time with this difficult illness was made bearable by your love.

See you all soon,

Love,

-John, Mary Ellen, and all of the Callahan Family.

  1. Dear John, Mary Ellen, and Callahan Family,

The Smith Hartwells send our love to you all. Trisha - friend to Everett and me separately as a child, then friend to Collier, then family tie - was especially special to us for our meandering connections. Her quirky style, intelligence, sense of play, and ability to just sit and feel things with you, made her someone to share life with. It's going to be rough without her.

We love you all. See you soon.

    Shannon

  3. We miss her more than we can imagine. Please contact me if you have information about time you spent with Trisha. She has a wonderfully complicated biography; she lived in many cities, went to many institutes of higher education, had many friends and coworkers, and had lots of FUN in everything she did. My email address is goodman156@comcast.net - please share, and we will put it all together for her life celebration in late January....Thanks, her sister, Claire

  6. I send love and huge hugs to all the Callahans. I loved Trish--she was so wacky, so honest, so brilliant, so musical, so Trish. How wonderful for her that she was surrounded by her wonderful, loving family till the end...If there is anything I can do to help plan, please let me know. XOOX Mimi

  7. It hurts so much to know she is gone. I enjoyed every precious minute I spent with her. I didn't see her after she became ill so I remember her as being really high on all the good feelings engendered by the documentary that came out. And now I have that movie...where she is going to be perpetually memorialized. Charming, funny, and full of her sparky intelligence. I send condolences to her family - thank you for all you did for her. --Emily Odza
